Ensuring that you have made the proper steps to link to a Merchant is crucial in ensuring that you are given credit and commissions for the traffic and sales you drive to that Merchant's site. Luckily the process is very easy. This tutorial will take you through all of the steps to properly link to a merchant.

First up, I'll log into my account and choose a Merchant Program to join. Just go to "Join Merchant Programs" in the menu and then to "Search Merchant Programs to Join" in the popup sub-menu. Here I am presented with the search options. I am going to choose the "furniture" category by clicking on the link in the list of categories. A list of Merchants is then shown.

Here is a screen shot of part of the search page. I am going to try the "Furniture" category.

For this tutorial, I am going to join the "Kikay's Junk" program which is a % sale program. You can obviously choose any program that appeals to you. To join the program I simply click on the "Join" link at the right side of the row.

On the next page I am presented with a selection of text links and banners that Kikay's Junk are allowing their Affiliates to use to promote them. I know that animated banners tend to have a better click-through rate than static banners, so I decide to use their blue animated banner. To do this I check the box next to the animated banner that says "Request Banner" and press the "Request These Advertisements" button at the bottom of the page. Note, that I can select as many advertisements as I wish. (For this tutorial we will stick to only one).

This is a selection of the banners that this Merchant is offering. Notice the check box in the right where you can choose which ones you wish to use.

Kikay's Junk has elected to automatically approve my request so I am taken to the next page with a text box full of code. Some Merchants will elect to manually approve or decline Affiliate requests to join their program. In that case I would have to wait for them to accept me at which time an email with the relevant code would be sent to me. Luckily with Kikay's Junk, we can move ahead immediately.
Don't forget to press this button after selecting the banners and text you wish to use.

Once I see the code on the next page (or if I am looking at the code sent via email) I am able to copy it. I place the cursor in the text box and press "Ctrl A" to highlight all of the code and then "Ctrl C". This copies the code to my clipboard automatically. I am now ready to place it on my webpage.

The code looks like this:

<!-- Begin clixGalore Code-->
<p align="center">
<A href="http://www.clixGalore.com/PSale.aspx?BID=24299&AfID=92892&AdID=3637">
<img src="http://www.is1.clixgalore.com/cgd.aspx?BID=24299&AfID=92892&AdID=3637" border="0" height="60" width="468">
</A>
<br>
<a href="http://www.clixGalore.com/default.asp" target="_new">
<img src="http://www.cliximages.com/images/clixgalore/clixfooter.gif" border="0">
</a>
</p>
<!-- End clixGalore Code-->

A screen shot of the code page. This is the code you need to use on your own website.

Now, if you are using straight HTML code to update your site, you can place the code directly into the HTML by placing your cursor where you wish to insert the code and pressing "Ctrl V". Note that the code needs to be placed between the and tags to work correctly.

The code of a plain HTML page with the clixGalore banner inserted would look like this:

<html>
<body>

<!-- Begin clixGalore Code-->
<p align="center">
<A href="http://www.clixGalore.com/PSale.aspx?BID=24299&AfID=92892&AdID=3637">
<img src="http://www.is1.clixgalore.com/cgd.aspx?BID=24299&AfID=92892&AdID=3637" border="0" height="60" width="468">
</A>
<br>
<a href="http://www.clixGalore.com/default.asp" target="_new">
<img src="http://www.cliximages.com/images/clixgalore/clixfooter.gif" border="0">
</a>
</p>
<!-- End clixGalore Code-->

</body>
</html>

If you are using a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) web page editor such as Microsoft Front Page or Macromedia Dreamweaver, you will first have to switch to "Code View" before you paste the code into the HTML. If you would like to use a WYSIWYG web page editor, some are available free of charge at www.download.com

Note: Many people using WYSIWYG web page editors make the mistake of pasting the code directly into the "Design View" which is incorrect. It must be inserted in the "Code View."

The code that you have inserted into the HTML has your unique Affiliate ID as well as the Merchant's program ID in it. This allows clixGalore to track the traffic you are sending to the Merchant's site and to pay your commission should they purchase anything on the Merchant's site.

After the code is inserted, you can upload your new webpage to your site via "File Transfer Protocol" (FTP). There are many FTP programs available for free at www.download.com if you need one though most WYSIWYG editors are also capable of handling the FTP process.

Once the file has been uploaded to your site, you should visit your site using a regular browser to make sure everything is working properly. With any luck, you will now have a web page displayin
