SETTING PRODUCT SPECIFIC COMMISSION RATES

21 August 2015

Admin

Enterprise Gold+ Merchants wishing to pay and set specific commission rates for different products and/or services, rather than having one default program commission rate, may do by using the 'Product Specific Commission' feature. In essence, this feature allows you as the Merchant to further control your costs at a product level with consideration given to various items' profit margins.

For Affiliates sending customers who purchase multiple items in a single transaction, commission rates assigned at the product level can be an excellent reward system, especially if a Merchant is willing to set a particular product's commission rate higher than the programs regular commission rate (which is set with each banner).

As is already widely understood, Merchants' websites should make it as easy as possible for visitors to place and complete an order. It is therefore common practice for Merchants to allow multiple products to be purchased within a single transaction. The values of these multiple products may vary greatly, nevertheless the different prices are captured within the single transaction. It is in accordance with allowing different rates to be itemized and included within a single transaction that clixGalore Affiliate Marketing enables Merchants (Enterprse Gold+) to set different product specific commission rates.

Using the 'Transactions > Set Product Specific Commission Rates' menu item, you are able to define your own commission rates for ten product groups. If you have more than ten products that you wish to have a different commission rate then we suggest grouping these products under a single generic product grouping code on your website and entering that product group code at clixGalore. If any item in that product group code is purchased on your website you then need only to pass through that grouping code.

Fixed Per Sale and Lead Programs

If your program is a fixed per sale program you would enter the product code and the fixed commission rate you would like to pay if that product is purchased.

For per sale and lead programs append the new parameter "PR" followed by the product code(s) purchased. If multiple product codes are passed through separate each code by a comma. For example if the two product codes ABC and DEF are purchased the following would be appended to our tracking code:

http://www.clixGalore.com/AdvTransaction.aspx?AdID=1234&SV=100&PR=ABC,DEF

The Affiliate commission will be calculated from the two product codes. If none of the product codes passed are found in your product code table we will revert back to the banner commission rate.

To illustrate the commission calculation we will use a product code table as follows:

Product Code Commission Rate
Product Code ABC $2
Product Code DEF $3

Using the example product codes, PR=ABC,DEF will result in a total commission of $5 ($2 for product code ABC and $3 for product code DEF)

Percentage Per Sale Programs

If your program is a % per sale program you would enter the product code and then choose either a percentage or fixed amount you would like to pay if that product is purchased.

For percentage per sale programs append the new parameter "PR" followed by the product code purchased, followed by a colon and the total purchase value of that product within the main purchase total.

If multiple product codes are passed through separate each code by a comma.

For example if the two product codes ABC and DEF are purchased with respective sale values of $30 and $40 the following would be appended to our tracking code:

http://www.clixGalore.com/AdvTransaction.aspx?AdID=123&SV=100&PR=ABC:30,DEF:40

The product sale value following the colon is the total component of the overall purchase total made up from that product. For example ABC:30 could mean two units of product ABC were purchased at $15 each or one unit at $30.

For each product code passed through we will take the purchase value component and calculate the commission from your product code table.

To illustrate the commission calculation we will use a product code table as follows:

Product Code Commission Rate
Product Code ABC 5%
Product Code DEF 6%

The program banner rate commission is 10% per sale.

Using the example product codes and a parameter of PR=ABC:30,DEF:40, for product code ABC the commission will be $1.50 (5% of $30), for product code DEF the commission will be $2.40 (6% of $40).

The product purchase values are then summed, 30 + 40, and this value is taken away from the total sale value passed in the SV parameter, 100. This leaves a remainder of 30 (100 – 70) from which the program banner rate commission is then applied, in this example, 10% of $30 giving a commission of $3.

The total commission paid to the Affiliate is therefore

Product Code ABC 1.50
Product Code DEF 2.40
Base Program Rate 3.00
Total Affiliate Commission 6.90

If the subtotals from the individual products equal the total product value in the "SV" parameter then no program rate commission will be calculated.

If you are using a fixed rate commission instead of a % rate for a product the subtotal sale amount for that product must still be passed through.
